Week In Angel Athletics

Sept 26th - Oct 1st

Football Friday night the Angels football team faced their first test in a few weeks and found themselves down early. Fueled by senior leadership and a great passing offense, the Angels were able to pull away and walk off the field with a 34-21 victory. The scoring started on the first drive of the game when Jayvion Hunter took off for a 34 yard TD run. The Angels wouldn’t score again until late in the 2nd quarter where John Perugini found Davion Thomas-Kumpula for a 27 yard touchdown. In the 3rd quarter Perugini found Thomas-Kumpula for 2 touchdowns, the first a 7 yard TD and the 2nd a 16 yard TD. Abel Mulder capped off the scoring in the 4th quarter by picking up a fumble recovery and returning it 56 yards for a touchdown. Thomas-Kumpula led all receivers with an impressive 16 receptions for 209 yards and 3 TD’s. Perugini ended the game with 3 passing TD’s and 251 yards through the air. Hunter led all rushers with 168 yards on the ground and 1 TD.

Girls Tennis At Lockwood Park on Tuesday afternoon the girls tennis team hosted Racine Park in its last regular season match of the year. The Angels played well as they were able to defeat Park 5-2. Nylah Kraus and Sarah Strande were each able to earn singles victories as they defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2. All three doubles teams earned default victories as Park did not have enough players to field doubles teams.

Girls Volleyball Tuesday night the Lady Angels traveled to Shoreland Lutheran for a Metro Classic Conference volleyball match. Shoreland Lutheran played extremely well and showed why they are receiving state rankings in division 3. Shoreland Lutheran was able to defeat the Angels 25-8, 25-5 and 25-12. Arianna Jones led the team with 3 blocks while Maciena Trujillo led the team with 3 kills. The Lady Angels were back on the court Thursday night as they hosted Dominican. The team played great defensively all night long, however even with great defense, the Angels couldn’t overcome the powerful offense of the Knights as Dominican took the match 25-8, 25-11 and 25-15. Arianna Jones led the team with 3 kills and 2 blocks while Maciena Trujillo finished with 2 kills and 2 blocks.

Boys Volleyball Monday evening the St. Catherine’s/Lutheran/Prairie boys volleyball team traveled to Union Grove for a Southern Lakes Conference boys volleyball match. The team improved over each set, unfortunately Union Grove was too much to handle as the Broncos defeated the Angels 25-10, 25-12 and 25-19.

Boys Soccer At SCORe soccer park on Wednesday night the Angels soccer team hosted Martin Luther. After a back and forth beginning of the 1st half, the Angels were finally able to break through as Abel Galvan found Marco Sanchez for a goal to jump out to a 1-0 lead. A little later in the first half Abel Galvan had his 2nd assist of the game as he found Juan Bueno to go ahead 2-0. In the 2nd half Galvan would break through with a goal of his own as Marco Sanchez found him to go ahead 3-0. When the final whistle blew the Angels were able to walk off the field with a well earned 3-0 victory. Friday afternoon the boys soccer team hosted state ranked University School of Milwaukee in a non-conference game at SCORe soccer park. The Angels got on the board early and took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Excellent defense by Juan Bueno, Marco Sanchez and Wade Roberson fueled the Angels in the 2nd half and pushed them to the upset victory, 2-1. Adrian Hernandez and Alex Wilkey scored the goals for the Angels in the 1st half. Both goals were unassisted.

Cross Country Thursday afternoon the Angel cross country team traveled to Johnson Park to participate in the Prairie Cross Country Invite. The Angels ran well on a course they are familiar with.
